burned clutch Honda CB500X with only 1.700 kilometers
in a month and 1.700 kilometers only, I got an oil leak and now a burnt clutch. For sure, I don't use it for Starbucks ride, but I was expecting a bit more, I like adventure bikes for their versatility. After my Kawasaki Versys 250cc, Two Kove MV500 (Hunter Maverick 500cc in Indonesia) I was expecting to use and abuse my new Honda CB500X the same way I used the previous ones, well I found her limit, learned my lesson and will be more careful in the future.
it took 5 minutes from 9h43 to 9h48 ( you can see time on my phone) of hard-core clutch use to destroy it, I was expecting more.
Honda Big Wings Bali offered me to pass it under warranty as it is unusual wear, but it would have immobilized my bike for a month or so, so I took on pay the change of the clutch so they could put it back on the road in 24 hours, great service and great attitude from the dealer 👍

what is that top case and the racks and plates? how to install them on the benelli zafferano 250? Where can I buy them, please?
@GioLopez101 the top case is a K-Max Box Motor 40 Liter, you can find it on tokopedia, I fixed it with the base plate given with the box directly on the rear luggage rack

Thanks Bule, I have just bought one 7,999 Euro in Ireland , comes with the luggage , great value, Your video helped me to make my mind up , I am short 170 , had a 1200 GS for 13 years, I am 74 yrs old,and am getting shorter !! so this bike is perfect for me . Thanks again !!

too much corrosion on this model 😢
@gator_fz Chinese bikes are still a bit rusty 😁
@@Buledoyanmotor it's so pity 😓 i really like this model but what I've seen yesterday in the shop very disappointed me 😔
so f850 gs or this?
My personal choice would go to the Triumph 900 Rally
Love your vids. Do you have a map of some of the great routes?
Thanks, I share the maps briefly in the video
Apparemment le moteur fait parti du chassis Alors c'est un point faible pour l'aventure
Je vois pas en quoi c'est un point faible, j'ai un sabot moteur qui est fixé sur le châssis
I have the same bike same color I love it ❤
Brothaaaaaaaa 😁
I would classify it as a lightweight adventure motorcycle for mostly offroad use. Oil Change at 4000 km and valves at 8000 km. It would fit into the Honda CRF450RL and KTM 500exf class. Service intervals have been proven to be ok to push off through careful oil analysis. It's how you drive it that is the real factor.
Well, in my point of view, it's a Dual-sport with Dakar Rally pretention. The tail can't support luggage, panniers, and top case, so it's not an adventure bike
It would support Mosko Moto Recless 40L, Wolfman TW E-Base, Giant Loop Coyote, and many others. I'm not really sure who travels with Panniers or saddle bags off road....it doesn't sound safe.
Enjoy the new bike, i have ride cbx for more than 3yrs and it still great 👍🏻
Thanks
Have one, but little time to use st present. It is about 10 kg lighter than my km 640 adv. Carries weight lower do to tanks. Not as good for long distance adv camping. Buzz st bars better than Ktm640 Adv. Long distance racing, kove450 better at that. Ktm has 28 liter compared to claim 30 for 450.. Will kove450 replace my 640? Not yet.
It was my point on this video, it's a rally bike, not an adv for camping and trip around the world, very good Dual-sport motorcycles for off-road oriented ride, can do asphalt to commute but not comfortable for long hours
Which one did you prefer? They both look like great bikes.
My choice will go to the Aprilia Tuareg 660 as I'm much more into adventure riding rather than Enduro or Rally
@@Buledoyanmotor Thank you, I'm looking for one here. They are not easy to find.
Mine's fine after 18k km. The only difference is I actually use first gear. You said you had a versys, that one likes to rev, so why not use first gear and rev this one up as you should?
After my Versys, and before this CB500X, I had 2 Kove MV500 that are using the copy of this engine, the 471cc parallel Twin made by Loncin, and I've been in the same track using second gear to avoid wheel spinning, the torque at low rpm being enough on these engine, I was surprised that the Chinese copy of this engine could take more clutch use, and that the Honda couldn't. Now the slipper-clutch could be the culprit as the Chinese bikes were using conventional clutch. Just weird that I could abuse clutch on Chinese bike and not on Honda.
@@Buledoyanmotor You might be onto something there with the slipper clutch: the Loncin might use stronger springs and you probably coupled the clutch completely without realizing, therefore slipping it less. But even so, I am honestly telling you I also use mine off road and use the clutch a lot, but in the first gear, and didn't have any problem so far. The clutch is not showing any signs of burning out. So I'm not sure the Honda cannot take the abuse, maybe it's just different (slipper clutch, probably different gear ratio?) .
@bogdan1207 well I never saw a clutch burning completely in 5 minutes of use

If you dont mind me asking how much was the clutch replacement in bali roughly?
100 $
So what was the mistake? Pushing semi dev bike on trails? Or just bad quality clutch plates?
Ya definitely pushing the bike too much in 2nd gear for 5 full minutes with the standards oil 10w30 in a tropical environment. That's not clever from me, so that's my fault, now I know that changing oil for 10w50 for more resistance to the High heat would void the warranty, I just have to change my way of riding that bike, it can go anywhere but I need to adapt the way I ride it and be more patient.
@@Buledoyanmotor wow
I wish to join your team
What are you riding ? Are you in Bali ?
Change clutch system with Rekluse X semi automatic system clutch bro
That is an idea 💡
Slap my ass and call me freedy krueger😂😂😂
mod it bro, - sprockets - ECU, include radiator fan - engine oil W50/W60 or, change to transalp :D
The transalp was the first idea, but they didn't have any availability, so I went for the little sister, sprocket I don't really need, the gearing is good for off-road, will need an extra tooth on the front sprocket for highway use actually, but for Indonesia it's fine, we rarely go fast, reinforced clutch plate maybe, or I just stop messing up in single track with it 😁
An enduro motorcycle is better for those routes, with a shorter sprocket ratio you can go at a slower speed and overcome obstacles more easily. In addition to using the clutch less, you are using the clutch to reduce the power of the motorcycle, which directs that energy straight to that component that was made for another purpose.
I agree with you, but I like to use my adventure bikes everyday and everywhere, I've done that trail many times with my previous bikes, but I guess that day I was asking too much of it and I failed, now let's fix what I have broken.
Came over from the CB500x group on Facebook to take a look at your vlog. I’d 100% say the problem of the burned out clutch is self inflicted. You spend way too much time riding (slipping) the clutch. The clutch should be either fully out or fully in. You can’t blame Honda for your application. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I think you are right, and I was pushing it way too much. I found the limits of that clutch and will learn from my mistakes. Thank you for your comment.
you ride that clutch like crazy, I've never seen anyone abuse a clutch like that. If 2nd gear is to high change your sprocket. A lot of that should have been done in 1st gear.
1st gear there will just dig a hole in the ground, 2nd is way preferable in the sand, but I agree I was pushing the clutch too much, I guess I was expecting too much out of it, I was wrong, learned my lesson and now I know its limits
try 10w50
That makes a perfect sense comment, more resistance to high temperatures
But Honda told me it will void the warranty, they use 10w30 only
well, these bikes are not dirt bikes you cannot ride the clutch for too long. In loose terrain slipping is done for you by loose terrain, no need to use clutch. All you could do is change sprockets for more torque in low speed. On your video clearly you're riding the clutch all the time, big no no for heavier bikes and no need for this. Not bike fault but yours.
There is no need to change sprockets as torque is not an issue on that engine, been riding these track with my Maverick in second gear as well, same 471cc parallel Twin and never had a problem in 9.000 kms, I can see that my use of the clutch was excessive, and that I should have stop before to rest the machine, I will take the blame and pay my bill anyway but I'm really surprised that it happened so quickly.
These days every man and his dog with a camera thing they are Chris Birch. Due to lack of skills and basic knowledge destroy bike and blame manufacturers for there incompetence.
And keyboard warrior at their Starbucks terrace 😜
Between 1st and 2nd gear, which is more likely to get burn more?
One thing is sure, I should have noticed before that something was going wrong, then I could have avoided it. Well, I will fix it and see if it happens again or not
2nd
Next time try it in 3rd gear, maybe you will only need 500 kms to burn it lol.
That's a good idea 😄
sell it and buy again the kove 500x (hunter maverick) honda is not for off road
It just can't be, there is no way a Chinese copy of this engine can handle more clutch use, in that case the clutch plates are to blame, not the engine, I'm done with Kove (Hunter)
Too bad this happened to your bike but from what I've seen you often ride single track which probably requires to use the clutch very often...I've done quite a bit of offroading with my bike but no clutch issues so far 🤞🤞
Yup too bad indeed, I never saw a clutch giving up so fast, let's see the point of view of the mechanic when they will open it, I like this engine very much but if it can't be versatile for going wild on the weekend then I do have an pickle.
I like to consider adventure bikes like swiss knives, and I like to use them in every situation, trying to find their limits and mine. Well, I think I was pushing it too much, and I found the limit of that clutch, lesson learned, and I will think twice to bring it again in single tracks.
@@Buledoyanmotor to be honest, I think you've had just a bad luck and it shouldn't hold you off nice single tracks in the future. A lot off people ride these bikes offroad and the clutch issues are pretty uncommon. All modern cb500x's do have 5 years warranty so the dealer should fix it for free. I've had water pump issues (leaked coolant) with mine. After it was replaced under warranty, this never happpend again. Good luck!
That sucks, sorry you are having problems. I am sure it will be sorted soon, let's hope the Honda aftercare is still up to scratch, all the best mate.
The only thing that could make sense is bad clutch plate batch, there is no way this engine can't handle a bit of rough use, I had copy of this engine on 2 of my previous bike and I gave them hell in sand and single track, let's see what the mechanics will say,
Does that stock plug was also Iridium??
Yes it was
That stock bulb is lame, makes the bike look 20 years old.
True, well the bike was launched in 2016 and on a budget
